cheesy texas toast recipe - featured image

A quick and indulgent homemade snack featuring thick Texas toast topped with a buttery garlic cheese blend, perfect for cozy evenings and easy gatherings.

Ingredients

Scale
  • Thick Texas toast slices
  • ½ cup (115g) unsalted butter, softened
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • ¼ cup (25g) Parmesan cheese, finely grated
  • 1 cup (100g) mozzarella cheese, shredded
  • Pinch of smoked paprika or chili flakes (optional)
  • Fresh parsley, chopped (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C). Line a baking sheet with foil or parchment paper for easy cleanup.
  2. In a mixing bowl, combine softened unsalted butter, minced garlic, grated Parmesan, shredded mozzarella, and optional smoked paprika or chili flakes. Mix until evenly blended.
  3. Spread a generous layer of the cheesy garlic butter mixture on one side of each Texas toast slice, covering evenly but not overloading.
  4. Arrange the prepared bread slices on the baking sheet, cheesy side up, leaving space between each slice.
  5. Bake in the oven for 8-10 minutes, watching closely after 7 minutes to prevent burning. The cheese should be bubbly and golden with slightly crispy edges.
  6. Optional: Broil for 1-2 minutes at the end for extra crispiness, watching carefully to avoid burning.
  7. Remove from oven and sprinkle with freshly chopped parsley. Let cool for 1-2 minutes before serving.

Notes

Use thick Texas toast for best results to avoid sogginess. Watch the oven carefully during broiling to prevent burning. Garlic butter can be made ahead and stored in the fridge for up to a week. For dairy-free or gluten-free versions, substitute vegan butter and cheese or gluten-free bread accordingly.
