A frosty, tart-sweet frozen blackberry margarita that comes together in under 5 minutes with simple ingredients. Perfect for hot days, taco nights, or any occasion that calls for a refreshing, boozy slushie.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup (about 140g) blackberries (fresh or frozen)
  • 3 ounces (about 90ml) tequila blanco (silver tequila)
  • 2 ounces (about 60ml) fresh lime juice (from about 2 medium limes)
  • 1 ounce (about 30ml) orange liqueur (triple sec or Cointreau)
  • 1 to 2 tablespoons (15-30ml) simple syrup or agave nectar
  • 1 ½ cups (about 200g) ice cubes
  • Salt or sugar for rimming (optional)
  • Lime wedges and fresh blackberries for garnish

Instructions

  1. Prep your glasses (optional but recommended). Run a lime wedge around the rim of each glass. Dip the rim into a shallow plate of coarse salt or a salt-sugar mix. Set the glasses aside while you make the drink.
  2. Add the liquid ingredients to the blender. Pour in 3 ounces of tequila blanco, 2 ounces of fresh lime juice, 1 ounce of orange liqueur, and 1 to 2 tablespoons of simple syrup or agave nectar. Give it a quick swirl with a spoon — this helps everything blend evenly later.
  3. Add the blackberries. Toss in 1 cup of blackberries (fresh or frozen). If you’re using fresh berries and want a deeper cold drink, add an extra handful of ice in the next step. Frozen berries will make the drink naturally frostier.
  4. Add the ice. Drop in 1 ½ cups of ice cubes. If you’re using frozen blackberries, you can reduce the ice to about 1 cup for a thicker consistency. The drink should be thick but pourable — think a good slushie texture.
  5. Blend until smooth. Start on low speed for about 10 seconds, then ramp up to high. Blend for 30 to 45 seconds total, until the mixture is completely smooth and no large ice chunks remain. The color should be a deep, vibrant purple — almost like a berry sorbet.
  6. Taste and adjust. Take a small sip. If you want it sweeter, add another tablespoon of agave and blend for 5 seconds. If it’s too thick, add a splash of cold water or lime juice. Too thin? Add a few more ice cubes and blend again.
  7. Pour and serve immediately. Divide the mixture evenly between your prepared glasses. Garnish each glass with a lime wheel and a few fresh blackberries skewered on a cocktail pick. Serve right away — this drink doesn’t sit well and is best enjoyed frosty cold.

Notes

Don’t over-blend; stop as soon as smooth (about 30 seconds). Use frozen blackberries for best texture. Start with 1 tablespoon sweetener and adjust to taste. Chill tequila and lime juice beforehand for thicker results. Work in batches if making more than 2 servings. Rim glasses just before serving to prevent salt from sliding off.
