A warm and spicy fall cocktail made with fresh ginger, ripe pear, and smooth bourbon. Quick to prepare and perfect for cozy nights or casual gatherings.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 oz (60 ml) bourbon (e.g., Bulleit or Maker’s Mark)
  • 1.5 oz (45 ml) pear nectar or 100% pear juice
  • 1 small knob fresh ginger (about 1 inch / 2.5 cm), peeled and sliced into thin coins
  • 1/2 medium ripe pear (e.g., Bartlett or Anjou), cored and cut into small chunks
  • 0.5 oz (15 ml) fresh lemon juice
  • 0.5 oz (15 ml) simple syrup (optional, adjust to taste)
  • Ice cubes (large, solid cubes preferred)
  • For garnish: thin slice of fresh pear, crystallized ginger, or sprig of thyme (optional)

Instructions

  1. Prep your ingredients: Peel and slice the ginger into thin coins. Cut half a ripe pear into small chunks, removing core and seeds. Squeeze about half a lemon to get 0.5 oz (15 ml) fresh juice. Measure out 2 oz (60 ml) bourbon and 1.5 oz (45 ml) pear nectar.
  2. Muddle the ginger and pear: Drop the ginger coins and pear chunks into the bottom of a cocktail shaker. Use a muddler to gently press and twist until the pear is mashed and the ginger is broken down, releasing juices. Do not over-muddle.
  3. Add the liquids: Pour in the bourbon, pear nectar, and fresh lemon juice. Add simple syrup if using.
  4. Shake: Fill the shaker about ¾ full with ice cubes. Seal tightly and shake vigorously for 15-20 seconds until the shaker feels frosty cold.
  5. Strain and pour: Place a fine mesh strainer over a chilled martini glass. Slowly pour the cocktail through the strainer to catch ginger fibers and pear pulp.
  6. Garnish and serve: Garnish with a thin slice of fresh pear, crystallized ginger, or a sprig of thyme. Serve immediately while ice cold.

Notes

For a milder ginger flavor, use a smaller piece of ginger (about ½ inch). For a bolder ginger flavor, let the cocktail rest in the fridge for 30 minutes before serving. Double-strain using both a Hawthorne strainer and a fine mesh strainer for an extra-smooth drink. Chill the glass in the freezer for at least 10 minutes before serving.
